Mavrick Fisher murder trial delayed to September

The trial for Mavrick Fisher’s murder case has been delayed again because of the coronavirus pandemic. Fisher, a deaf man, is charged with murdering Grant Whitaker, also deaf, at a campground in Humboldt County last year. Fisher has pleaded not guilty.

I was able to call the Lake County Courthouse today in northern California and was informed by the clerk that on August 25, there will be a trial readiness conference / settlement conference.

The jury trial is scheduled for September 30th, but the dates are fluid because of the pandemic.  The clerk said the jury selection process could take longer than expected.

The courthouse has not held a jury trial since the coronavirus pandemic hit the U.S. in March, so it’s the entire court schedule that is delayed, not just the Mavrick case.

Fisher’s defense attorney, Thomas Feimer, confirmed that the dates are accurate and he said he has no case-related updates.
