3 hurt, 5 arrested after shooting at Ramadan celebration in Philadelphia

Three people were shot and five people are in custody after gunfire erupted in a Philadelphia park where an Eid al-Fitr event, to mark the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, was taking place.

Gunfire erupted around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday near Clara Muhammad Square as an estimated 1,000 people were at the celebration.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner said two factions inside the park exchanged gunfire, and some 30 shots were fired.

Officers who were in detail in the area managed to stop three males and a female, all of whom were taken into custody. Police said the suspects are between the ages of 15 and 21. At the scene, five guns were recovered.

Amid the gunfire, one of the officers engaged an armed 15-year-old male, shooting that teen in the shoulder and leg. That suspect was then transferred to the hospital.

The other victims including a 22-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach while a 15-year-old boy arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his hands. Both victims are listed as stable. Police said there were no fatalities as a result of the shooting.

Witnesses said they don’t know who was shooting, where the shots came from. Everyone just started running, screaming and getting on the ground. One of witnesses said he began to run with many other people, but turned around to help children and women who were getting trampled on. He said it was complete chaos.

United Airlines flight forced to divert after dog pooped in 1st class aisle

A United Airlines flight from Houston to Seattle was diverted to Dallas due to a passenger’s dog pooping in the aisle.

According to one passenger, James Hobbs, the canine’s messy accident occurred in first class on April 5, and the crew spent more than two hours trying to clean the plane’s carpets with paper towels.

A representative for the airline confirmed the incident to PEOPLE.

Hobbs said the mess was so bad in the first class bathroom that even after cleaning they still closed it for the rest of the flight.

He added that travelers were given masks and alcohol wipes to sniff, due to the strong odor, which made him ill.

He said the excrement was a very liquid form that was in several places in the aisle and got on the shoe of the passenger sitting next to him.

He said it was a bad situation for passengers, the dog and that poor owner.

Mom killed boyfriend, pushed daughters out on freeway, died in crash

A Los Angeles woman died in a traffic crash after police suspect she committed a murder, drove off with her daughters and left the infant and 7-to-9-year-old to die on the 405 freeway after they were pushed out of her moving vehicle early Monday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, an 8-month-old infant was struck by one or more cars and was killed. The 9-year-old girl was able to get to the shoulder of the freeway where she was found by officers at around 4:45 a.m. She was taken to a hospital for moderate injuries.

Police said the infant’s death happened shortly after the mother, now identified as Danielle Johnson, used a kitchen knife to stab her live-in boyfriend, 29-year-old Jaelen Chaney, to death in an apartment in the Woodland Hills area.

Johnson was killed when her SUV collided with trees at high speed in Redondo Beach a bit later Monday morning.

Police said there was no history of police calls to the apartment where the couple had been living for more than a year nor prior incidents of domestic violence reported between the two. Investigators said, “We really don’t know why this incident escalated to such violence.”

Zelensky says Ukraine will lose war without US funding

President Zelensky said Ukraine will lose the war if the United States Congress does not approve military aid to help it resist Russia’s invasion.

Zelensky said, “It’s important to specifically address the Congress: if the Congress doesn’t help Ukraine, Ukraine will lose the war. If Ukraine loses this war, other countries will be attacked. This is a fact.”

“This year, Ukraine really needs US support. There’s certain weapons systems, certain logistical support which the European countries simply cannot provide to Ukraine such as air defense systems.”

Zelensky’s warning, among his starkest, since the war began more than two years ago, comes as Congress has for months refused to pass a package of aid for Ukraine, leaving Kyiv to battle manpower and ammunition shortages while an emboldened Russia pounds Ukraine’s cities with missiles and tests for weak spots along the front line.

The US Senate passed a $95.3 billion foreign aid bill with assistance for Ukraine and Israel in February, but House Speaker Mike Johnson has so far refused to hold a vote on passing the package for Ukraine.

O.J. Simpson dies of cancer at 76

Thanks, Callie.

O.J. Simpson’s family announced he died on April 10 after a battle with cancer. He was 76.

O.J. was a former NFL star player and actor who was accused of and acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1994. The trial was very high-profile because O.J. was already a celebrity and the trial was televised. He was acquitted in 1995 and that decision was controversial with people either celebrating it or being appalled.

The Goldman and Brown families pursued a wrongful death lawsuit against O.J. in civil court. He was found liable for the two deaths and was ordered to pay over $33 million in damages.

Twelve years later, O.J. was arrested in Las Vegas on charges that included armed robbery. He was found guilty and served about nine years in prison before being released on parole in 2017.

O.J. announced last May that he had cancer and was doing chemotherapy. His last update was on February 11, in which he said although he was dealing with some health issues, his health was good.

O.J.’s family said he died while being surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

Thanks for that report. That is all the top stories for today. See you tomorrow and stay with the light!
