Updates on Uvalde elementary school shooting

Here are updates on the Uvalde elementary school shooting.

A news report said when the shooting started, there were police officers outside of the school but they didn’t go inside. A witness said the cops were unprepared and that some civilians felt like they should rush inside the school because the officers weren’t doing anything.

A police spokesperson said a school security officer encountered the shooter, but he still got inside of the school. It is not clear if the two exchanged gunfire.

There were two Uvalde police officers who arrived at the school but the shooter fired at them, injuring the officers.

The shooter then went into just one classroom and locked the door and shot all the children and the two teachers who were in that classroom. All of those who died were in the same classroom.

A team of Border Patrol agents arrived at the school but couldn’t quickly open the classroom door because they didn’t have a key, so they had to find a staff member who had a key. Then they were able to shoot and kill the gunman.

It was around 40 minutes to an hour of time from when the shooter entered the school up to the moment he was killed.

The gunman, Salvador Ramos, bought two rifles last week just after his 18th birthday.

There was drama during a news conference hosted by Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott because his Democratic opponent for governor, Beto O’Rourke, interrupted the conference by standing up and telling Abbott that he is responsible for the shooting unless he does something different with gun laws. Police officers escorted Beto out of the room. The Uvalde mayor shouted that Beto had a sick mind.

The shooting has renewed the national debate on gun laws. The families of those who died in the shooting are now making funeral arrangements.

Manhunt for a woman who killed elite cyclist

US Marshals are now on the hunt for a 34 years old woman, Kaitlin Marie Armstrong (34) from Austin, who is wanted for homicide for killing an elite cyclist Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson (25). Here’s what happened. The cyclist Wilson was set for a 157 miles race in Texas on May 14th but a few days before, Wilson was shot multiple times and killed at a friend’s home.

Apparently, this was a “love triangle.” Wilson and Armstrong both had some type of relationship with the same man, a professional cyclist, named Colin Strickland (35). Seems that there were some messages of jealousy between these two women that suggested this became a motive for Armstrong.

It seems that Wilson did date Strickland in between of Armstrong and Strickland’s relationship break, but Strickland himself said that Wilson and Strickland were just strictly friends and had a professional relationship.

Armstrong kept threatening Wilson through messaging. On the day that Wilson died, security cameras show Armstrong’s vehicle near Wilson’s friend’s home and they found other pieces of evidence. As of now, it seems that Armstrong left Austin and booked a flight to New York City. She is considered a fugitive and the arrest warrant is for murder.

Eleven newborn babies die in Senegal hospital fire

A fire broke out at Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh Hospital which is located in a city named Tivaouane in the country Senegal. This fire killed eleven newborn babies and only three could be saved. It is possible that the fire was caused by a short circuit as reported by the Senegalese politicians.

Last year in a different part of Senegal, there was also a hospital fire that killed newborn babies. In a CBS news article, it mentions that there are concerns raised for maternal and infant health and safety in the West Africa nation because some of the best hospitals are in West Africa and they need to maintain that trust.

The president of Senegal tweeted his condolences to the mothers and families.

Josh Duggar sentenced to federal prison and fined

Yesterday, Josh Duggar, the eldest brother of the very large famous Duggar family that was featured on TV, was sentenced to federal prison and fined for child pornography.

Some of you might remember the famous reality TV show called “19 and counting” which followed the Duggar family and their daily lives. This show started in 2008 and was featured on TLC channel. It rose up to popularity up until 2015 as it got canceled based on accusations of Josh Duggar, the oldest son, who had molested girls as a teen.

A few years later, an active investigation began on Josh for suspected child pornography. In April 2021, federal agents arrested Josh and he was charged with two counts of possessing and receiving child pornography. In November 2021, his trial began.

On December 9, 2021, Josh was found guilty. As of yesterday, several news articles reported that the sentencing has been decided. He was sentenced to 12 ½ years in federal prison and fined $10,000. In one of the articles, USA Today, it says that Josh’s lawyer is grateful that it was not a 20 years sentence and will continue to fight to appeal. Josh has a wife named Anna and seven children.

Paper airplane throw breaks a new Guinness World Record

A trio team named “Shin Kim Chee Team” broke a world record for the paper airplane throw that went 252 feet and 7 inches in South Korea. This is nearly the length of a football field.

Kim Kyu Tae and Shin Moo Joon are from South Korea while Chee Yie Jian is from Malaysia.

Joon folded the plane, Jian designed it, and Tae sent it soaring. This happened on April 16th. Yesterday, May 25th, it became official and was publicly announced that the trio broke a Guinness World Record and will be recorded.

The previous record was 226 feet and 10 inches by a former American football quarterback Joe Ayoob and paper airplane designer John Collins (USA) back in 2012.

The trio mentioned in the articles that they are thrilled that they broke a Guinness World Record for the paper airplane throw.

That’s all for now. I hope you have a great Thursday as the weekend is coming around the corner. See you tomorrow and stay with the light!
