7 Virginia deputies, 3 others charged in death of Irvo Otieno

On March 6, a 28-year-old man named Irvo Otieno died after at least nine people piled on top of him while he was in police custody at a state hospital in Virginia. Otieno died of asphyxiation.

Now ten people are charged with second-degree murder, including seven Virginia deputies and three hospital employees.

A video showing the incident was recently revealed. Otieno was in handcuffs and leg irons when he was swarmed. He was pinned for almost 11 minutes.

The New York Times explained that Otieno struggled with mental health for a long time. On March 3, he was put in police custody after he walked to a neighbor’s lawn and picked up solar-powered lights. The neighbor called the police. He was taken to a hospital for an evaluation but he allegedly assaulted officers and was taken to jail.

Three days later he was taken to the state hospital where he died. Otieno’s mother said she feels that his son was treated like a dog, worse than a dog. The family has retained renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump.

Gwyneth Paltrow in ski crash trial

Gwyneth Paltrow, the Oscar-winning actress, is on trial in Utah over a lawsuit from a retired optometrist who accused her of skiing out of control and crashing into him in 2016, causing him to sustain a brain injury and four broken ribs. The retired man’s name is Terry Sanderson and he is seeking damages of $300,000.

Paltrow has counter-sued, saying Sanderson hit her. The trial is expected to last for eight days.

Dentist charged with poisoning wife to death

A dentist in Colorado was charged with murdering his wife by putting arsenic and cyanide in her protein shakes. His name is James Toliver Craig and his wife’s name was Angela Craig.

The Aurora Police Department said they believe that James wanted to kill his wife so he could be with a woman he was having an affair with.

Last week James drove Angela to a hospital after she was suffering from severe headaches and dizziness. She was later declared medically brain dead. Police said they started an investigation after they found out from James’ colleagues that he ordered dangerous chemicals that weren’t necessary for his dental practice.

Police said they found out that James had previously poisoned his wife about five years ago. Police charged James with first-degree murder and said it was a “heinous, complex and calculated murder.”
