Deaf school in Kharkiv hit by Russian missile
A Deaf school in Kharkiv, Ukraine was recently hit by a Russian missile, but fortunately, there were no causalities. Here is more information from a Ukrainian-American, Arkady Belozovsky.
Arkady Belozovsky: It happened on March 15, 2023. It was a C-300 missile that came from Russia. It hit the city of Kharkiv (shows sign), which is the second-largest city. Kharkiv is a big place and there are districts in it. The missile hit an area that was rarely targeted. Most strikes are on Saltivka (shows sign). But it hit in Oleksiyivka (shows sign), which is where many deaf people live in apartments. It hit right next to the Deaf school. It hit a building on the back side of the campus. There was a lot of damage.

Belozovsky: Apartments nearby were also damaged with debris falling down on cars that were parked on the street.

The area where it was hit, according to those who I got information from, was used as a nursing office and offices used by administrators.
Alex: Thank you, Arkady for sharing the information. He said he found out about the bombing through updates on the Telegram app from the Ukrainian Society of the Deaf (UTOG) and their regional chairperson in Kharkiv. He said staff are now working from home. Students are in distance learning.

This is the second instance of a Russian bomb damaging a Deaf school. In March of last year, a Russian strike blasted through a Deaf school in the village of Kamyanske in the Zaporizhzhia region. There were a few students and staff that were at the school but fortunately, nobody was injured. There are over 50 Deaf schools across Ukraine.
To add a personal note, I did visit that particular Deaf school in Kharkiv in 2011 before I even started “The Daily Moth.” It was a wonderful environment with many Deaf children. It is heartbreaking to think that it’s now empty and damaged by a missile.
