Netflix losing subscribers

Netflix said it’s lost 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2022, from Jan to March 31. It is the first time in over 10 years that Netflix has lost subscribers.

Netflix has about 222 million subscribers worldwide. However, it estimates that about 100 million households are accessing Netflix via a shared password, which causes the company to miss out on revenue. Netflix said it may roll out to more countries a test feature to charge subscribers around $2.99 a month to share passwords, which they’ve tested in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru.

Netflix’s co-CEO also said they are considering offering lower subscription rates with ads.

Wimbledon bans Russian & Belarusian players

Wimbledon said it would ban Russian and Belarusian players from this year’s tennis tournament in June. Wimbledon officials said in a statement that they “share in the universal condemnation of Russia’s illegal actions (in Ukraine)” and are taking action to “limit Russia’s global influence.”

The world’s No. 2 men's tennis player is Russian Daniil Medvedev and the world’s No. 4 female tennis player is Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.

Home Depot arson suspect arrested

Law enforcement in California said they have arrested a man suspected of intentionally starting a fire at a Home Depot in San Jose two weeks ago.

The suspect’s name is Dyllin Jaycruz Gouge. He is accused of using the fire to distract others as he tried to steal a cart full of tools.

The fire raged out of control and completely destroyed the store and caused an estimated $17 million in inventory loss. Over 100 firefighters worked for 12 hours to stop the blaze. There were no injuries.

The fire was so hot that it was detected from a national weather service satellite.

Gouge faces years in prison for his charges of arson and theft.

Man inhales drill bit during dental visit

An Illinois man who was on a dental appointment happened to inhale a dental drill bit into his lungs.

The man, Tom Jozsi, said he was getting his tooth filled and when he coughed, he was told that he swallowed the drill bit. But a CT scan showed that the drill bit was in his right lung, meaning he inhaled it.

Jozsi went to a medical center in Wisconsin, where doctors used a catheter that is typically used in early detection of cancer to find a way down his lung and remove it.

Jozsi said he was very happy when he opened his eyes to see his doctor shaking a container with the drill bit in it. He said the drill bit is displayed on a shelf at his home.
