Variety: WW2 film “The Letter” has all-deaf cast, crew

Variety reported that a hard of hearing British filmmaker named Justin Edgar is producing a 30-minute film called “The Letter,” a drama about a deaf community in Germany during World War II.

The story follows “the struggle of deaf people who fought back against Nazis’ oppression during the war.” The story is based on true events but has fictionalized characters.

The entire cast and crew is composed of deaf artists and professionals.

The story is written by a deaf person named Julian Peedle-Calloo and was directed by Sam More, who is also deaf.

Edgar (the producer) said the film goes a step further than the Oscar-winning film “CODA” because it is led by deaf people and that on the set, there were so many deaf people that there needed to be interpreters for hearing people instead of the other way around.

It is not clear when the film will be released, but Variety said the film is in post production. It will be released on UK channels Together TV, Sky Go, NOW, and BSL Zone.
