Renca Dunn, Daily Moth Reporter:
Last night was the kickoff of the TV show Dancing With The Stars, Season 31 and the Deaf actor Daniel Durant from the Oscar Winning movie “CODA” was one of the contestants.

To recap what happened last night, Daniel was paired up with a pro dancer named Britt Stewart. Daniel and Britt introduced themselves at a dance studio and Daniel also introduced his interpreter for DWTS named Gabe.

The pair had to do the tango, and the song choice was “Barbara Streisand” by Duck Sauce. There were scenes showing Daniel and Britt’s rehearsal time and some of Daniel’s life growing up. There was one part where Daniel mentioned that communication will be a challenge, but he believes that Britt will pick up some signs and they will be fine.

The pair wore bright lime green outfits and took the floor by storm. At the end of their dance, Daniel tilted back and signed “ILY” while fireworks went off behind.

The judges commented that they were blown away by Daniel and Britt’s tango moves, but one of the judges Derek Hough mentioned that Daniel needed to loosen up more and work on some flexibility of some of his footing. The interpreter stood right behind the judges in a clear position for Daniel to see him. After the judges gave the pair feedback, Daniel turned and signed “Moms, ILY” as both of his mothers were there in the front cheering him on.

Daniel and Britt’s total score was 27 out of 40. Both of them cheered and Daniel signed “vote!” for the viewers.

That score is considered a good score for a first dance because some other pairs had an average score of 26 to 28. The show ended with the elimination of a dancing couple. Based on the judges' scores and the viewers' votes, pro dancer Peta and her partner Jason were eliminated.

Daniel and Britt will advance to the next round next week. That concludes the wrap-up of what happened last night. We will continue to give you updates on Daniel’s progress on DWTS. The show itself is on Monday nights at 8pm EST on Disney+.
