Deaf News Briefs: CSD Riverside championship game; “Hawkeye” streaming; Nyle announces “Deaf Punk” series
Here are three Deaf News briefs.
On Saturday, the California School for the Deaf, Riverside’s 8-man football team will be playing for its CIF Southern Section Championship in Division II 8-man football. CSDR will be playing against Faith Baptist Academy. CSDR’s Facebook page said the game’s location was changed to John North High School in Riverside to accommodate the demand for tickets. The second news is that the first two episodes of Marvel Studios’ “Hawkeye” series are now streaming on Disney+. One of the characters is a deaf superhero called “Echo,” which is cast by a deaf actress Alaqua Cox. I haven’t watched it yet, but I’m reading that Echo makes her first appearance in the second episode. Echo should be a significant character in “Hawkeye” because it was recently announced that Echo will have her own Disney+ TV series in the future.

The third news is an announcement from Nyle DiMarco that he is going to work with Morgan Freeman to develop and produce a drama series called “Deaf Punk.” It will be about a deaf club in San Francisco that was rented by various famous punk bands in the 1970’s and 80’s. Nyle told “Deadline” that the series is going to be about two “disenfranchised communities who joined forces to make noise and propel change.” If you check out Nyle’s Instagram, you will see that he shared several clips of people partying at the deaf club venue.
