NY AG: Trump’s company misled banks and tax officials

New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office said in court documents that they have found evidence that former president Donald Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, used misleading or fraudulent practices with banks and tax authorities to get favorable loans or tax benefits. The AG’s office said they need to question Donald Trump and two of his eldest adult children, Donald Jr. and Ivanka.

The Trump Organization said the AG’s investigation was baseless and politically motivated.

What is next? The AG is asking New York’s Supreme Court to force the Trumps to comply with subpoenas seeking their testimony.

Cracker Barrel to pay $9.3 million for serving bleach

A jury ordered Cracker Barrel to pay a Tennessee man $9.3 million for an incident in 2014 in which a waitress served a cup of what they thought was water but was instead filled with a type of bleach called Eco-San. The man said when he drank it, he felt a burning sensation in his mouth at the time and has since suffered years of gastrointestinal issues. The man’s attorney said the restaurant failed to train its employees to clearly separate chemicals in marked containers. The restaurant said it was an “unfortunate and isolated” incident. The man may not receive the full amount ordered by the jury because there is a Tennessee law that limits economic damages awards.

Senate candidate Gary Chambers smokes marijuana in ad

A candidate running for a U.S. Senate seat in Louisiana, Gary Chambers, posted a viral campaign ad in which he is seen sitting in the middle of a grassy, swampy field smoking a large marijuana blunt. The video is 37 seconds long and is titled, “37 Seconds.” The video explains that since 2010, someone in America has been arrested for possession of marijuana every 37 seconds and that Black people are four times more likely to be arrested for marijuana laws than white people.

Chambers said he wants to spark a new conversation and destigmatize the use of marijuana. He hopes to defeat Republican Sen. John Kennedy in the November midterm elections.

“Wordle” game becomes popular

There is a popular new game called Wordle that anyone can play on the internet. It is a free game where you try to guess a five-lettered word in six chances. You will have to type in any five-lettered word, and the game will reveal which letters are correct and whether they are in the right place or not. If you see a green box for a letter, that means It is a correct letter in the correct spot. If you get a yellow box, it means it is a correct letter but in the wrong spot. If you get nothing — a black box for a letter – it means the letter is not in the word.

In the example here in the PIP screen, you can see that I put “DAILY” on the top as my first guess. The “I” is a correct letter in the correct place. Below, my second guess is “MOTHS.” I now see that “O” is a correct letter in the correct place. You can see that the “T” is a correct letter but in the wrong place. So I have more clues to guess the word of the day. You only have six tries. The game will create a new word every 24 hours.

People do post their results on social media by showing this box with colors on certain squares as to show how quickly they figured out the word without revealing what the day’s word is. The game was developed by Josh Wardle, a software engineer who is from England but lives in New York. If you want to check it out, go to www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle or just Google “Wordle” and click on the first link at the top.
