DeSantis said he appreciated the “team effort” from the president. Biden said the Florida governor has been doing a good job in handling the recovery efforts.

22 children murdered at child care center in Thailand

In northeast Thailand, a former police officer carried out a mass shooting and knife attack at a child care center that killed at least 22 children and several adults. The gunman also killed his wife and child before committing suicide. The death toll is at least 37 people.

The age range of the children at the daycare was between two to five years old.

News reports said the gunman was fired from his post last year over allegations that he used drugs and that he was facing a trial on drug charges.

Reuters reported that the gunman was in court earlier during the day and that he went to the daycare to pick up his child but when he saw that his child was not there, began the killing spree.

Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha said the shooting was a shocking incident.

Gas prices increasing again

The AAA said today’s national average gas price is $3.86 a gallon. AAA said the price has increased seven cents over the past week and that the main culprits are tight supply and increased demand.

OPEC+, a cartel of countries that are major oil producers, agreed to slash oil production by about 2 million barrels a day. This means there may be higher gas prices in the future.

The Biden administration tried to push OPEC to not cut production but was not successful.

Fat Bear Week in Alaska

In Alaska, it is the “Fat Bear Week,” an annual online competition in which people view images of brown bears who visit the Brooks River in Katmai National Park to vote on which bears are the “fattest of the fat.”

The idea is to celebrate bears’ success in preparation for winter hibernation as they eat salmon. The bears can weigh over 1,200 pounds.

The bears are identified by names such as “32 Chunk,” “335,” “435 Holly,” or other combinations of numbers and words.

The website explore.org organizes the tournament and provides an opportunity to vote by viewing images of two bears in various head-to-head matchups. Votes are done by clicking on a link and inserting your email address. You can check out the link to see all the information.
