Recap of Daniel Durant’s DWTS Competition: Week 6

Renca Dunn, Daily Moth Reporter: This is a recap of the Deaf actor, Daniel Durant, from the Oscar-winning movie “CODA”, being one of the contestants on Dancing with the Stars this season. Now, it is Week 6 and the theme is “Michael Bublé.” This means all of the songs that the contestants danced to were Michael’s songs. Michael is a Canadian singer and usually sings jazz, contemporary pop, and more. He was also one of the special judges last night. Daniel and his partner Britt Stewart danced a Foxtrot to the song “Feeling Good.”

During rehearsal time, Daniel said he needed to step up and really want to do the dance well. Daniel mentioned that the song “Feeling Good” reminds him of when he went through some hard times in his life and he had to remind himself that tomorrow is a new day. Britt mentioned that lately, they have been placing 5th or 6th so Britt wants to change up some of the routines to make Daniel “stand out” more. Daniel said since he cannot hear the music, Britt explained to him what the emotions of the music were about so Daniel could express the emotions with his facial expressions during the dance to match the song.

For the performance, Daniel and Britt wore white outfits. Britt had a white, sparkly dress while Daniel had a white suit. There was no stage decor. This dance includes 2 slow steps and 2 quick steps. The both of them seem to be in sync with each other and well-connected as they danced.

The judges including the special judge Micahel told Daniel that they were very impressed with Daniel on how he could express the emotions that matched the music without hearing it. None of the judges really had feedback for him except to applaud him for his hard work. The total score for Daniel and Britt was 43. It is higher than usual because of the additional special judge so everyone got a higher score than usual.

At the end of the show, a dancing couple has to be eliminated based on the judges’ votes and audience/viewers’ votes. Jesse James Decker and Alan Bersten were the ones that got eliminated. This means Daniel and Britt are still running in the competition so we will see them again next week. It seems that the theme for next Monday will be related to Halloween. Let’s find out! If you want to watch the show yourself, you can tune in Disney+ on Monday nights at 8pm.
