Recap of Daniel Durant’s DWTS Competition: Week 3

Renca Dunn, Daily Moth Reporter:
This is the Week 3 recap of “Dancing With The Stars” with the CODA film Deaf actor, Daniel Durant’s progress as one of the contestants. Last night’s theme was “Bond Night.” Daniel and his partner Britt Stewart had to do the Rumba with the song “The World is Not Enough” by the band Garbage.

We want to mention that we learned that Britt has a name sign given by Daniel (shows name sign). Typically in Deaf culture, name signs need to be given by a Deaf person so Daniel observed that Britt was very friendly, inspirational, sweet, and had a big heart hence the reason behind the name sign.

Now, for last night, Britt and Daniel had to do the Rumba and it seemed during rehearsal time, it was challenging for Daniel to do the Rumba because he mentioned that he was not able to feel the beats. The music for Rumba has fewer beats and is slower. There was a moment between Britt and Daniel during rehearsal time where Daniel expressed that this was very challenging for him.

Britt did mention to Daniel that she never wants Daniel to be defined by the fact that he is Deaf but defined by his talent. Daniel said that he is so lucky to have Britt as his partner. We also noticed that Britt is picking up ASL quickly in just a few weeks.

For their dance performance, they wore mixed colors of navy blue and emerald green clothing. Britt had a shiny emerald green dress with patterns while Daniel wore a velvet navy blue suit. There was a big hand behind Daniel and Britt as the stage décor while fog filled the stage.

The both of them moved smoothly and slowly together. It seemed like a very intense type of dance. There were a lot of moves that required Daniel to continue holding on to Britt and dip her mid-air frequently. Daniel also included some of his acting skills to act like James Bond.

After their performance, the audience cheered for them and Dani el’s moms were seen again. The judges mentioned they were blown away by their performance. Derek Hough, one of the judges who kept giving Daniel feedback about his arm needing to be more connected to his body, applauded Daniel for finally improving in that area. The judges' total score for Daniel and Britt was 31 which is the highest they have gotten so far.
