Secret Service agent shoots at would-be car thieves

AP News reported that Secret Service agents who were protecting President Biden’s granddaughter, Naomi Biden, in D.C. opened fire at three people who were breaking a window of a parked Secret Service SUV. Naomi was not in the SUV — there was nobody in the SUV and it was unmarked. One of the agents opened fire towards the thieves, who fled into a red car and drove off. The Secret Service said it informed the D.C. Police to be on the lookout for the car. Agents said they don’t think anyone was hit by the gunfire.

AP News said Washington has seen a significant rise in the number of carjackings and car thefts this year.

Huge storage yard fires in L.A. shuts down interstate

In downtown Los Angeles, there was a major fire at two large storage yards under Interstate 10. Around 80,000 square feet were torched and the interstate is now closed down indefinitely. City officials said there will be significant traffic delays as they work to reopen the interstate. Nobody was injured in the blaze. Over 160 firefighters worked to stop it. There is now an investigation into what caused the fire and why flammable material, such as pallets or vehicles filled with gasoline, was allowed to be stored under the bridge.

Fierce fighting between Israel and Hamas near hospitals

News reports say fierce fighting between Israel and Hamas is continuing near hospitals in northern Gaza. Israel said Hamas has facilities under the Al Shifa hospital, but Hamas denies this.

The World Health Organization said Al Shifa hospital is not functioning as a hospital anymore. Doctors said there are over 30 premature babies that could die if their incubators shut down due to generators running out of fuel. Israel said it offered fuel for the hospital but that Hamas has prevented it from going through.

Israel released a video that it says shows a Hamas terrorist firing a rocket-propelled grenade near another hospital, the Al-Quds Hospital. Israel said Hamas continues to use civilians as shields.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said Al-Quds is out of service and no longer operational. About 14,000 people were sheltering there during the war. The organization said medical staff and patients are trapped in the building without food, water or electricity and that they are scared to evacuate due to heavy gunfire and bombardment in the area.

The Turkish government has sent a ship carrying generators, ambulances and other medical items to an Egyptian port near its border with Gaza.
