May 30 Deaf News Briefs

Here are four Deaf News briefs.

Gallaudet’s Eric Gregory wins NCAA championship

The first — on Saturday, Gallaudet University sophomore track star Eric Gregory became a NCAA Division III National Champion in the 400 meter dash. He ran a lap in 46.19 seconds.

Gregory also finished in third place in the 200-meter dash.

Gallaudet University tweeted a video of the 400 meter race, and you should watch it at the link in the post or in the transcript. Gregory was in lane 5 and for most of the lap seemed to be in the middle of the field. But after the final turn and down the last 100 meters, Gregory seemed to run longer strides and kept the lead for good.

Gallaudet said Gregory is now Gallaudet’s first National Champion, calling him a “History Maker” on Twitter.

His race was featured on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” on Sunday.

Sandra Mae Frank now a series regular on “New Amsterdam”

The second Deaf News brief — Sandra Mae Frank will become a series regular for NBC’s medical drama New Amsterdam in its upcoming fifth season, according to a report from “Deadline.” Frank was a recurring character in Season 4 as a surgeon and Chief of Oncology who happens to be deaf.
