Senate passes debt limit bill

The Senate passed the bill that would suspend the debt ceiling until 2025 in a 63-36 vote.

The bill now goes to President Biden’s desk for it to be signed into law. This means the U.S. will be able to pay its bills.

Biden praised Congress for getting a deal done and he plans to give an address tonight.

Limo company operator sentenced to 5-15 years over fatal crash

In 2018, an SUV limousine with 18 people in it, including the driver, was killed when it crashed in upstate New York. Two pedestrians were also killed. A total of 20 people died.

The operator of the limousine company, Nauman Hussain, was recently found guilty of 20 counts of second-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison.

The limo had failed an inspection by the New York’s DMV a month before the crash. The driver also did not have the appropriate driver’s license. The limo also had one brake that failed. Prosecutors said Hussain “chose profit over people.”

Pence won’t face charges over classified documents

ABC News said the Department of Justice (DOJ) will not pursue criminal charges against former Vice President Mike Pence after completing an investigation on a small number of classified documents found at his home in Indiana.

Pence is expected to announce that he is running for president next week.

At least 30 killed in train collision in India

BBC reported that between 30 to 50 people were killed after two trains collided in India. Over 100 people were injured.

News images show several train carriages toppled with people rushing to rescue the injured.

Indian Prime Minister Modi said he is distressed by the incident and that his thoughts are with the affected families.

Volkswagen to offer electric minivan

Volkswagen announced it will start selling an electric minivan in 2024 that is inspired by the classic VW Microbus. The new vehicle is called ID. Buzz.

Fox News said the vehicle is already available in Europe, but the American version will be longer and offer three rows of seats.

Apple may unveil AR/VR headset

CNN reported that Apple may unveil a “mixed reality” headset next week. The device will offer both virtual reality and augmented reality, which is when digital images are overlaid in the real world.

The device may cost about $3,000. It may be called “Reality One” or “Reality Pro.” The device would be suitable for gaming, fitness and meditation. We’ll see if Apple does launch this type of device.
