It is Monday, January 25. Here are today’s top news briefs.

On Sunday morning in Indianapolis, five people were found dead from gunshot wounds inside of a house.

One of the dead was a 19-year-old pregnant woman, Kiara Hawkins. Her unborn child died. The other four were a family unit: parents Kezzie Childs (42) and Raymond Childs (42) and two of their children, Elijah Childs (18), and Rita Childs (13).

Police said the evidence they have gathered shows it was not random and that the shooter intended to conduct mass murder.

Police were first called to the scene because there was a boy who was shot and is in critical condition. That led police to discover the home with the bodies. Police have not named any suspects or made arrests so far.

Moderna announced that its vaccine is effective against mutations of coronavirus that is spreading in the U.K. and South Africa. Moderna said they are developing a booster dose specifically for the South Africa strain because it is stronger than the U.K. variant.

Larry King, a well-known TV and radio host, passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 87. He has been hospitalized since December with Covid-19. AP said he conducted about 50,000 interviews as a CNN host from 1985 to 2010.

In Houston, an Amazon delivery driver named saw a car seat with a small baby in it that was abandoned on the side of a road. The driver, Juan Carlos Flores, stopped and asked a nearby home to ask if someone left it outside. It turned out that the baby was in a car that was carjacked with the suspect leaving the baby on the road. The neighbor cared for the baby until police were able to reunite it with the mother. The baby was about 5 months old. It’s a relief that the baby is okay. Police are still looking for the suspects.

Mexican President Obrador said he tested positive for the coronavirus and has mild symptoms. He is 67. AP News explained that he rarely wears a mask and frequently flew across the country using commercial flights.

In the Netherlands, the parliament voted to impose new coronavirus restrictions that included a night curfew. There were violent protests and riots against the orders. Over 240 people were arrested. A Covid-19 testing center was burned to the ground.

In China, there was an explosion in a gold mine two weeks ago, causing 22 workers to be trapped about 2,000 feet underground. Eleven were pulled alive on Sunday, but 10 miners died and one is still missing. The survivors were pulled out with blindfolds on to protect their eyes from the light after they were in darkness for many days.
