Friday, October 22 top stories

It is Friday, October 22. Here are today’s top stories.

On Thursday, actor Alec Baldwin used a prop gun and accidentally killed a cinematographer on the set of the film, “Rust” in New Mexico. The prop gun may have misfired or had a live bullet inside of it instead of a blank.

The cinematographer’s name was Halyna Hutchins. She was 42 and left behind a husband and a son.

The film’s director, Joel Souza, was injured from the prop gun and was hospitalized but is now out of the hospital.

Baldwin said in a statement that “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness” and that he is “fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred.”

An article in BBC explained that a prop gun uses a cartridge that has gunpowder in it, but no bullet at its tip. The idea is to make gunfire look realistic without shooting out bullets. But it is still dangerous as there could be an accident with the powerful gunpowder or there could be a live bullet mistakenly inserted.

In 1993, the actor Brandon Lee, who was the son of Bruce Lee, died on the set of “The Crow” from a prop gun accident.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. So far, no charges have been filed.

The FBI confirmed on Thursday that the human remains found in a Florida park near items belonging to Brian Laundrie are his. Dental records were used to confirm Laundrie’s identity. The area in the park was previously covered with water that has since receded. We will know more later on what the cause of Laundrie’s death is, what information there is from Laundrie’s items, which was a backpack and a notebook. The discovery brings a conclusion to the search for Laundrie, who disappeared after his fiancee Gabby Petito went missing and was later found dead in Wyoming from strangulation. Laundrie has been named a person of interest in Petito’s death and had an arrest warrant out for unauthorized use of Petito’s credit card.
