More updates on Uvalde shooting

Here are more updates on the Uvalde school shooting.

Yesterday a police spokesperson said the shooter was never stopped by police officers before he entered the school. It was a contradiction with previous statements that said a school police officer tried to stop him. The update is that there was no school police officer at all and that the gunman simply walked into the school building and into a classroom and started shooting.

Around seven police officers arrived at the school but did not go into the classroom because they were shot upon and took cover. It took an hour before a Border Patrol team was able to enter the classroom and shoot and kill the gunman.

Many parents and people in the local community are angry and frustrated on why police officers didn’t take more risks to enter the classroom and end the situation quicker.

A father of one of the girls who died, 10-year-old Amerie Jo Garza, said the girl had a cellphone and that she tried to call 911 during the shooting.

There is a survivor of the shooting — an 11-year-old girl named Miah Cerrilo. Her family said she played dead by putting blood on herself. She was injured from the shooting and had pieces of bullets in her back and was taken to the hospital and has been released.

In a sad news update, the husband of one of the two teachers who were killed — Irma Garcia — died of a heart attack two days after the shooting. His name was Guadalupe “Joe” Garcia. The couple was together for over 30 years and had four children between the ages of 13 to 23.

Actor Ray Liotta dies at 67

A famous actor named Ray Liotta, known for his roles in the movies “A Field of Dreams” and the “GoodFellas,” has passed away at the age of 67.

News articles say that he was in the Dominican Republic shooting a movie called “Dangerous Waters.” He passed in his sleep.

Many people outpoured their grief for the passing of Liotta including actress and singer Jennifer Lopez who said that Ray always had the tough-guy role in the movies, but he was actually all “mushy” on the inside as an actual person which is why he is such a fascinating actor to watch. Lopez did act with him in a TV cop series called “Shades of Blue.”

Actor Robert De Niro who co-starred with Liotta in the “GoodFellas” mentioned that Ray left us too young.

His fiancé Jacy Nittolo was with him on the island during the filming. Liotta leaves behind his daughter Karsen.

Golden State Warriors reach NBA finals for the sixth time in eight years

Last night, the Golden State Warriors (GSW) beat the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Western Conference finals Game 5 at the score of 120 to 110. This will be the sixth time that GSW makes an appearance for the NBA Finals in eight years since the Chicago Bulls from 1991 to 1998 led by Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.

One of the stars of GSW, Stephen Curry, received the first Earvin “Magic” Johnson trophy awarded to the Western Conference Finals MVP.

Many news articles say this was a great comeback for the GSW after they missed the playoffs two straight seasons due to injuries.

USA Today mentioned the “Splash Brothers and Company” are back in the “show” which is Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Draymond Green is the other star of GSW- the trio led GSW to the spot in the NBA finals.

GSW Head Coach Steve Kerr mentioned that he is at a loss of words and it takes an enormous amount of skill and determination and work for the team, especially the core group to get to that point.

GSW will face either the Miami Heat or Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.

Tennessee is the first state to make camping on a public land a felony

Tennessee will be the first state to make camping on a public land a felony. This felony charge is punishable by up to six years in prison and the loss of voting rights.

There is a concern about people who are homeless as this means they will not have anywhere to go if homeless shelters are not available to them.

Since 2017, homelessness in the USA has increased and even more so after 2020 because of the homeless shelters' limited capacity.

Bobby Watts, the CEO of the National Healthcare for the Homeless Council, mentioned that the problem is not about trying to solve homelessness but will make it worse for homeless people if they have a felony on their record because this means it will be harder for them to find some type of housing or even find a job. There are other states that have a statewide ban on camping on public lands, but Tennessee will be the first to make it a felony.

This will be effective on July 1st.

The Ellen DeGeneres show ends after 19 seasons run

“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” said goodbye yesterday as the show ended after a 19 years run.

The show ended with three guest appearances: Jennifer Aniston who was the first person to appear on the Ellen show when it started and now the last one as it ends, and two performers Pink and Billie Eilish. Ellen shared reflections on how there were noticeable changes in visibility and acceptance of gay people in Hollywood over the years. Ellen mentioned that in the beginning of her show, she could not say “gay” or “my wife”, but now she says it all the time.

Ellen said that if she has made anyone laugh or lifted them up through her show then she has done her job. She ended her monologue by saying her experience was a beautiful journey with the greatest experience and then asked DJ tWitch to dance “one last time” with Ellen.

Many wondered what will Ellen do next, she responded to them that she does not know exactly, but she knows that she is taking a bit of a break.

That’s all for now. You have a great weekend. See you later and always remember to stay with the light.
