Renca: About a few weeks ago, Meg got a DM in her Twitter account and it was from Mike. He told Meg that he was going to give her two tickets to great seats in the stadium. Meg was at a loss for words.

Renca: We reached out to Meg to explain to us how that happened and what Meg’s experience was at the game.

Meg Burkhard:

Renca: Congratulations on being recognized by Mike Hilton on social media! It seems like he noticed you through social media, right? Can you explain what happened?

Meg: Really, I’ve already been kind of well-known for a while. I started being known in around 2015.

Renca: By them?

Meg: Yes, by the team players and fans. There are some fans who are famous, like the Bengals Captain and Who Dey Baby. They go to ALL home and away games and are part of a program for charities such as for autistic kids and many more. I’ve been trying to get myself in that, so I met Who Dey Baby and got into that kind of thing in 2015. After that, I met many people and then I started to reach out to players. I admit, I tag players often to show my support and finally got recognized by them thanking me for my support. You’re talking to me? Oh. At first, I wasn’t used to them talking to me, and now… Yes, many people think it’s amazing. I feel like they’re my friends. Then someone took a picture of me and posted it on Twitter. He saw it and tagged me and retweeted saying “I got you” and that he would get me a jersey.

Meg: I got a new DM, so I opened it and it was Mike Hilton who said “If you can get to the game, I have two tickets for you”. What? Are you serious? He was. I thought, YES, I am going. I was so excited and thanked him, it meant so much to me. He said he had to have one of the most hardcore fans there. We’ve been in touch since, that’s been nice.

Renca: Cool!

Meg: The game was nice, it was fun.

Renca: Cool! That game took place last Saturday. How was that experience? I know you’ve attended many games, but with this experience Mike Hilton was the one who gave you tickets!

Meg: It was the best day of my life! The best day of my life. If you know football, if you know what it’s like to be a fan of a team who hasn’t won the Super Bowl yet, and hasn’t won the playoffs for over 30 years, it means a lot to this city. Fans are special to the team, the players, fans, and coaches. So, for me to go to that game and witness the game he gave me tickets to watch, where they broke the curse against my mom’s team… So, that made it more special for me too. After the game, we celebrated so hard. It was so worth it.

Renca: Meg said that being a loyal fan means sticking with your team through it all regardless of the hard times and great times. Fans play an important role. Meg mentioned that being loyal is worth it, always worth it.

Now, Meg hopes the Bengals will go to this year’s Super Bowl 2022.
