All three finalists withdraw from MSD Superintendent search process

The Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) announced it is suspending its search for a new superintendent after all three finalists withdrew from the process.

Former superintendent Mr. James Tucker, who is deaf, retired last fall.

MSD Search Committee Co-Chair Akilah English explained in a video that in April, three candidates were nominated to the MSD Board of Trustees after they completed a series of interviews. One candidate withdrew before a special meeting with the Board on May 6, and then the two remaining candidates withdrew after the meeting.

It was not revealed who the candidates are nor the reasons why all three decided to withdraw.

English said the Interim Superintendent Kevin Strachan (who is hearing) will continue in his role “until the Board makes a decision on how it will handle the interim Superintendent role.”

MSD worked with a consulting agency called Innivee Strategies in the search process. Innivee, who is led by CEO Shane Feldman, said in a Facebook post that this was “not the outcome that we wanted.” They said to follow MSD’s social media and website for the Board’s decisions on their next steps.
